Description

Description: The need to study the media in a critical way is becoming increasingly important for students. A significant amount of information that we know is learned through the media. Media literacy is connected to analyzing and understanding the use of mass media and helps students develop an informed and critical understanding of it. This lesson explores, through video, the use of media to depict the Canadian tar sands. Videos produced from sources are explored and students are challenged to critically analyze each video to understand its indirect and direct message(s). This lesson can be used as an extension of Tread Lightly Lesson 3.2 - The Climate Change Debate Process: Part A - Media Literacy background Part B - video deconstruction Part C - informal presentation and class discussion
